Restore the Reef

Begin with a bleached Indo-Pacific coral reef where much of the life has disappeared. Your task is to rebuild the ecosystem by reintroducing marine species, from small schooling fish to apex predators such as sharks.

Use the tablet to add or remove animals, then watch the reef respond on the larger screen. Hundreds of fish swim and shoal across the habitat as each choice changes the balance of life within it. As the simulated ecosystem grows healthier, color begins to return to the reef.

Developed by Temasek Polytechnic in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Restore the Reef brings ocean science into an immersive simulation. By placing the ecosystem in your hands, it reveals how species are connected and why predators such as sharks play an important role in reef health.
